AfroRoman® Converter

Are You Ready To Move To Unicode-Encoded AfroRoman Fonts?

for Windows

for Macintosh

Now You Can Easily Convert Your ASCII-Encoded AfroRoman Documents To Our Unicode-Encoded AfroRoman In Unicode Fonts With The AfroRoman Converter.

AfroRoman Converter will allow you to convert text typed with Linguist's Software AfroRoman (ASCII-encoded) fonts to the new Unicode-encoded font in AfroRoman in Unicode. The converter is a pair of macros embedded in a Microsoft Word file. You simply copy the macros into each of your Word files that contain AfroRoman text and run the macros to convert the text to the Unicode-encoded values of the AfroRomanU font. The macros do not affect any other text in your files except the AfroRoman text, allowing you to retain your file's original formatting. The AfroRoman Converter makes a daunting task simple.

Complete instructions are included in the AfroRoman Converter User's Manual.

AfroRoman Converter for Windows

AfroRoman Converter for Windows

AfroRoman Converter for Windows includes macros to convert AfroRoman (ASCII-encoded) text to the AfroRoman in Unicode (Unicode-encoded) font.

Windows System Requirements:

  • bulletOperating System
    1. bulletThe AfroRoman Converter requires Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, XP, or 2000 SP3.
  • bulletApplications
    1. bulletThe documents you are going to convert must be Word for Windows documents. The macros may be run using any version of Word for Windows from Word 97 to Word 2013.
      1. bulletThe resulting text produced by the AfroRomanDK macros may then be viewed/edited in any Unicode-compatible application that can open a Word document.
      2. bulletThe text produced by the AfroRomanOT macros may then be viewed/edited only in Microsoft Office 2003 or newer applications (except PowerPoint 2003, which is not compatible).
  • bulletFonts
    1. bulletRequires the AfroRoman (ASCII-encoded) font from Linguist's Software and the corresponding Unicode-encoded AfroRomanU font from the AfroRoman in Unicode for Windows product. (In some situations the AfroRoman font does not need to be installed, but the AfroRomanU font does need to be installed.
    2. bulletThe AfroRoman ASCII-encoded fonts used in your documents must be version 5.0 (dated May 22, 1997) or newer to be successfully converted. If your fonts are older than version 5.0 you must first update AfroRoman and convert your documents to the new version of the ASCII-encoded fonts following instructions in the Troubleshooting Manual. Then the AfroRoman Converter can be used to convert your documents to the Unicode-encoded version of AfroRoman. How do I find the version number?
  • bulletDocumentation
    1. bulletAll documentation is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, so Adobe Reader must be installed on your computer. If you do not already have it installed, you can download Adobe Reader free from the Adobe web site.

AfroRoman Converter for Macintosh

AfroRoman Converter for Macintosh

AfroRoman Converter for Macintosh includes macros to convert AfroRoman (ASCII-encoded) text to the AfroRoman in Unicode (Unicode-encoded) font.

Macintosh System Requirements:

  • bulletApplications
    1. bulletRequires Microsoft Word 2004 or 2011 to convert files to the AfroRoman in Unicode font (called AfroRomanU). The files you are going to convert must be Word for Macintosh files, since the macros are Word macros embedded in a Word file.
    2. bulletWord 2008 does not support Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros and therefore will not work. You must have Word 2004 or 2011. (Microsoft left VBA out of Word 2008.)
    3. bulletWord 2004 is Unicode-compliant, but does not support the OpenType features of the AfroRomanU font. Converted Word documents must then be imported into the Mellel word processor to correctly display and print the text.
  • bulletFonts
    1. bulletYou must install both the AfroRoman (ASCII-encoded) fonts used in your files and the Unicode-encoded (AfroRoman in Unicode) font to which you are converting the files.
  • bulletDocumentation
    1. bulletAll documentation is in Adobe Acrobat PDF format, so Adobe Reader must be installed on your computer. If you do not already have it installed, you can download Adobe Reader free from the Adobe web site.
