Complete localized versions of Microsoft Windows, with fully integrated Japanese language support. These have all features of US Windows localized for Japanese. Both include Japanese double-byte TrueType® fonts, MSGothic and MSMincho, and a CD with extra fonts. Japanese WordPad permits bilingual Japanese and English word processing. All Windows applets have been localized into Japanese. Input Method Editor (IME) input front end processor is included, and third-party front-end processors may be installed with the Control Panel IME installation utility. Toggle between Japanese and English input by switching IME front-end processor on and off.

All menus, on-line help files, and manuals are in Japanese. Menus parallel US Windows menu arrangement for easier learning. US Windows applications will run within Japanese Windows using English fonts. Compatibility with Japanese double-byte fonts varies from product to product. US Windows applets will run within Japanese Windows. Japanese Windows automatically recognizes many Japanese DOS applications, such as Ichitaro and Lotus 1-2-3, and will run them from Japanese Windows without modification. Use DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange) and OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) to transfer information between DDE- and OLE-enabled Windows applications. Important: Microsoft Japanese product upgrades require ownership of an earlier version of the Japanese version of that product in order to permit its installation. For example you must own a version of Japanese Windows in order to install the Japanese Windows upgrade version. Similarly, you must own a version of Japanese Word in order to install the Japanese Word upgrade. If you do not own previous versions of Japanese Window/Word you must purchase the full version.
