TransRoman Dictionary for Windows

Four TrueType® and Type 1 fonts (TransRomanDictLS and WebsterDictionaryLS  in plain, bold, italic, and bold-italic styles, and PhoneticOx and PhoneticOxII in plain only),  together containing all European Roman language characters and other characters for many American Indian and African languages, plus special dictionary pronunciation symbols. The keyboard layout is optimized for typing western European languages. TransRomanDictLS features 41 overstrike accents and diacritical mark keys for use in any combination to overstrike any letter or symbol. WebsterDictionaryLS contains dictionary pronunciation symbols used in the Merriam Webster® Dictionary, and in the Webster's New World Dictionary®. PhoneticOx contains phonetic symbols used in the Oxford English Dictionary, and PhoneticOxII contains symbols used in the Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Ed., and the OED CD version. The fonts are available in three typestyles: Times-, Palatino-, and Helvetica-styles.

System Requirements: The TrueType® fonts install into Microsoft® Windows XP, 2000, NT, Me, 98, or 95 and work with all Windows XP-, 2000-, NT-, Me-, 98-, and 95-compatible applications that allow the user to select fonts from a font menu. (A custom version for Windows 3.1 is available by request.) Type 1 fonts are also provided and require Adobe Type Manager® in Windows Me/98/95. The included Keyboard Switcher (keyboard driver) provides alternate keyboard layouts and allows access to four characters per key (instead of the normal two). The product includes a User's Manual, keyboard layout chart(s), and Character Code Tables showing every character in the font(s). All documentation is in PDF format, and can be viewed and/or printed using Adobe Reader. The fonts will print to any printer at the highest quality allowed by your printer.

A custom version (fonts only) is available for Linux, but Linux users must provide alternate keyboard input for characters in the extended character set. If you are ordering for Linux be sure to select the Linux box on the Order Form.

TransRoman Dictionary includes four fonts which are each available in three typestyles: TransRoman Dictionary contains Times-style fonts; TransRoman Dictionary Pala contains Palatino-style fonts; and TransRoman Dictionary Sans contains Helvetica-style (sans serif) fonts. The product called TransRoman Dictionary Professional includes all three typestyles. Below are samples of each typestyle of each of the four fonts. The first group of samples shows all characters in each of the four in TransRoman Dictionary (the Times-style fonts). After that are smaller samples of the TransRoman Dictionary Pala and TransRoman Dictionary Sans fonts. The Pala and Sans fonts include the same character set and arrangement as the Times-style fonts, but we provide a small sample to show you the typestyles.

Overstriking diacritics in the font may be placed over/under any character, in any combination. The sample above was created using these overstriking diacritics. (The lowercase a is displayed to show the relationship between letter and diacritic.)
