LaserUrdu for Windows

Four Type 1 and TrueType Urdu fonts with four corresponding Arabic and Persian (Farsi) fonts. Includes a Word for Windows template for easy right to left input (one line at a time) in the US (English) version of Word for Windows. The Word for Windows right to left template does not overcome all the limitations of working in the English (left-to-right) Windows environment. The user must still be careful about word wrap at the right end of each line, and have a carriage return at the end of each complete line of Urdu text to prevent the right-most word (the first word in an Urdu sentence) from wrapping to the next line. The Word right to left template does, however, provide an easy way to type Urdu as if you were typing in a right to left environment, while still using your English application, and is ideal for typing short amounts of text.

The fonts install into Microsoft® Windows XP, 2000, NT, Me, 98, 95, or 3.1x and work with all Windows XP-, 2000-, NT-, Me-, 98-, 95- and 3.1x-compatible applications that allow the user to select fonts from a font menu. The Type 1 fonts require Adobe Type Manager® in Windows Me/98/95/3.1. The product includes a User's Manual, keyboard layout chart(s), and Character Code Tables showing every character in the font(s). The included Keyboard Switcher (keyboard driver) allows access to four characters per key (instead of the normal two) and alternate keyboard layouts. The fonts alone (without Keyboard Switcher) will install into Linux, but Linux users must provide alternate keyboard input for characters in the extended character set. These fonts will print to any printer at the highest quality allowed by your printer.

Four Type 1 and TrueType Urdu fonts with four corresponding Arabic and Persian (Farsi) fonts for use in all standard Macintosh applications. Uses standard Arabic keyboard arrangement. Together with LaserUrdu, Nisus Writer can do right to left text and Urdu line wrap without having to install the resources from the Apple Arabic Language Kit. The included EuroScript Scripting System allows automatic contextualization of characters. If you do not have Nisus Writer, type as if right to left using EuroScript and allow the included Transcribe program to reverse the lines for you.

System requirements: The fonts alone work in Mac OS X but must be typed from left to right. In Macintosh System 7.1-9.x or in Classic mode running under OS X text can be entered from right to left using Nisus Writer (but not Nisus Writer Express). Text entered this way can then be exported for use in Mac OS X.
