The distinctive Mongolian script can now be typed in Windows
and Macintosh applications using LaserMongolian fonts. This
product contains four TrueType® and Type 1 hinted fonts:
MongolLS (for Outer Mongolian) and MongolInLS (for Inner
Mongolian), and MongolRoman, and MongolRomanVert (both Latin
scripts for use with the Mongolian scripts). Mongolian normally
is typed top-to-bottom, left-to-right. But the Windows and
Macintosh operating systems and applications are left-to-right,
top-to-bottom environments. We have created well-balanced and
-connected fonts that allow the user to type left-to-right (or
right to left), top-to-bottom and then rotate the finished text
90° counterclockwise to be read top-to-bottom, left-to-right as
our sample shows.
The LaserMongolian fonts are ASCII-compatible between the
Windows and Macintosh versions of the product. File transfer
between platforms can be made in RTF (Rich Text Format) or
text-only format, with no search and replace operations necessary
to clean up the file.
LaserMongolian for
Windows
In Windows, type text in reverse order (left-to-right), or use
the included Word for Windows macro for typing right to left one
line at a time in the US (English) version of Word for Windows. Then rotate the page 90º
counterclockwise to read properly. Alternatively, export the text
to a page-layout or graphics program and rotate the text on your
page.
The fonts install into Microsoft® Windows XP, 2000, NT, Me, 98, 95, or 3.1x,
and work with all Windows XP-, 2000-, NT-, Me-, 98-, 95- and 3.1x-compatible
applications that allow the user to select fonts from a font menu. The
Type 1
fonts require Adobe Type Manager® in Windows Me/98/95/3.1. The product includes
a User's Manual, keyboard layout chart(s), and Character Code Tables showing
every character in the font(s). The included Keyboard Switcher (keyboard driver)
allows access to
four characters per key (instead of the normal two) and alternate keyboard layouts. The fonts
alone (without Keyboard Switcher) will install into Linux,
but Linux users must provide alternate keyboard input for characters in the
extended character set. These fonts will print to any printer at
the highest quality allowed by your printer.

LaserMongolian for
Macintosh
In Macintosh applications, type text left-to-right, or proper
right to left text entry and line wrap are supported when used
with Nisus Writer. Enter text
right to left and then rotate the page 90º counterclockwise to
read properly. In Nisus, portions of Mongolian text can be
rotated and inserted in your Nisus document as a graphic,
allowing you to have horizontal and vertical text in the same
document. Alternatively, export the text to a page-layout or
graphics program and rotate the text in that program, allowing
you to have horizontal and vertical text in that document.
System Requirements: The font may be typed using the US keyboard, or with an included keyboard resource that
installs into OS X 10.2 and above or System 7.1-9.x. (The alternate keyboard
does not support OS X 10.0 or 10.1, which do not allow installation of
alternate keyboard resources. Owners of OS X 10.0 or 10.1 must use the US
keyboard.) The alternate input method uses the AsiaScript® scripting system,
which installs into Classic Mode of OS X and into System 7.1-9.x. (AsiaScript has been tested in OS X 10.3 Classic Mode.) The product includes a User's Manual, keyboard
resource, and keyboard layout charts.
