LaserGreek® in Unicode™
provides professional-quality, Unicode-encoded Greek fonts in TrueType®
OpenType® format
for Biblical and classical (polytonic) and modern (monotonic) Greek. The
Greek fonts include all standard accents, breathing marks, iota subscripts and
diereses used in Biblical and classical Greek. Because the LaserGreek in
Unicode (hereafter LaserGreekU) fonts include separate composite forms of each vowel with each
diacritic combination, every letter shape and diacritic position is
perfectly positioned, including the iota subscript directly below the left
leg of the eta. Omegas and alphas, with or without diacritics, are wider
than in our older non-Unicode-encoded LaserGreek
and LaserGreek II Greek fonts, and
iotas are narrower. (See below for a comparison
of non-Unicode SymbolGreek II with the new SymbolGreekU and SymbolGreekTU
Greek fonts.) The LaserGreekU fonts are distinctive in that they also
include the Nestle-Aland, UBS, Leiden, many TLG text-critical symbols
and sigla, extra characters for epigraphical and textual studies, and
arrows for indicating papyrus grain direction. In addition, eleven of
the fonts (SymbolGreekMetU, SymbolGreekTMetU, GraecaUBSMetU, OdysseaU, OdysseaUBSU, HellenicaU, HellenicaCU,
and the four TeubnerLSU fonts) also include
metrical long and short marks with all breathing marks and accents. The four TeubnerLSU fonts also include 78 special characters not
included in any other of the fonts. All the Greek fonts also include superscript and subscript numbers, the
Latin 1 character set and additional Latin characters and diacritics
covering many other languages.

Top LaserGreek in Unicode is available
for both Windows and Macintosh:
LaserGreek
in Unicode for Windows
LaserGreek in Unicode
for Macintosh
LaserGreek
in Unicode for Windows
LaserGreek in Unicode for Windows includes nine keyboard layouts that
provide four-characters-per-key input (instead of the normal
two-characters-per-key) in Windows 7, Vista, XP, and 2000.
The keyboards include 5 keyboard layouts for classical and Biblical
Greek, 2 keyboard layouts for English and many other Roman-based
languages, and 2 keyboard layouts for modern Greek: a standard
modern Greek National keyboard layout for monotonic Greek, with the
acute accent dead key on the semicolon key, and a keyboard layout
for modern Greek with a transliterated (phonetic) US layout.
The 5 keyboard layouts for classical and Biblical Greek provide easy
input of all the characters, breathings, accents, and
breathing-accent combinations of classical and Biblical Greek. The
first keyboard layout takes advantage of the OpenType layout
features built into the fonts for the most logical, intuitive input
available. Input order is letter, breathing mark, dieresis, accent,
and iota subscript. The letter with its associated diacritics is
built up automatically as you type, with all diacritics perfectly
spaced. This keyboard layout requires Microsoft Word 2007 or newer
(but see below),
OpenOffice.org
3.2 or newer, InDesign
CS4, or QuarkXPress 8.02 and is
provided with both English and French arrangements. The
second keyboard layout works with any Unicode-compatible application
and uses deadkey input to type Greek letters with their associated
diacritics. The user first types the deadkey (representing the
diacritic) and nothing happens. Then the user types the vowel and
the accented vowel appears in the file. This keyboard is also
provided in both English and French arrangements. The third keyboard layout
provides easy input of the extra characters provided in the
SymbolGreekMetU, SymbolGreekTMetU, GraecaUBSMetU, OdysseaU, OdysseaUBSU, HellenicaU, and HellenicaCU fonts, and the
four TeubnerLSU fonts. These characters include
metrical long and short marks with
all breathing marks and accents,
uppercase letters with accents, breathing marks and iota subscripts
(instead of adscripts), and other special characters, and the
keyboard only inputs these characters. Users can easily switch
between keyboard layouts at any time using a keyboard shortcut.
Detailed instructions are included. Windows System Requirements:
 | Operating Systems
 |
Requires Windows 7, Vista, XP, or 2000
SP3. |
|
 | Applications
 |
Requires any Unicode-compatible application, such as Microsoft Word,
Adobe®
InDesign®, QuarkXPress 7.0 or newer,
LibreOffice 3.3,
OpenOffice.org
3.2, or Microsoft Publisher.
(Microsoft PowerPoint is not compatible.) |
 |
Older, non-Unicode applications such as QuarkXPress 6.5 and earlier, PageMaker, and WordPerfect
(tested only through version 12) are
not compatible. |
 |
Microsoft Word 2010 or 2007, InDesign
CS4 or newer, QuarkXPress 8.02 or newer,
LibreOffice 3.3,
or
OpenOffice 3.2, is required to use the included
GreekLS Classical OT or GreekLS Classical French OT keyboard layout for logical input order
(letter-breathing mark-dieresis-accent-iota subscript), or to use the
included EnglishLS OT keyboard layout for input of Latin languages with
the same logical input order (letter, accent). Users of any
other Unicode-compatible application will use the GreekLS Classical,
and/or GreekLS Classical French (deadkey) keyboard layout, and the EnglishLS
(deadkey) keyboard
layout, which provide deadkey input (diacritic-letter).
All
keyboard layouts provide full access to all letters and diacritics used
in classical and Biblical Greek; they differ only in input method. |
 |
Microsoft Word 2003 used to
support the above-named OpenType keyboard layouts, but a recent
Microsoft security patch for Office 2003 has disabled this support.
Customers using unpatched versions of Office 2003 report their
installation of Word 2003 still supports the OT keyboards.
(Microsoft is aware of this problem.) |
 |
Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 (included in
Microsoft Office 2003) is not compatible with LaserGreek in
Unicode for Windows. All text is changed to the Arial font, whether
typed with the keyboard, input using Insert Symbol, or pasted from
Word using the Windows clipboard. PowerPoint users should type their
text in Word or another Unicode-compatible application, and save the
text as a graphic for import into PowerPoint. Users can also use
WordArt to create their text. To do this in PowerPoint go to Insert,
Picture, WordArt, and type your text, formatting it as desired.
Alternatively, users can type Greek text directly into PowerPoint
using our non-Unicode LaserGreek or
LaserGreek II fonts. (Earlier versions of
PowerPoint have not been tested for compatibility.) |

LaserGreek in
Unicode for Macintosh
LaserGreek in Unicode for Macintosh includes six keyboard layouts for use
in Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. The first two keyboard layouts take
advantage of the OpenType layout features built into the fonts for the
most logical, intuitive input available. Input order is letter,
breathing mark, dieresis, accent, and iota subscript. The letter
with its associated diacritics is built up automatically as you type,
with all diacritics perfectly spaced. A third OpenType keyboard supports
English and other Latin languages. These keyboard layouts require the Mellel word
processor or InDesign CS5. The remaining three keyboards use deadkey input. Users type
an accent key, which is a deadkey. Nothing happens until you type the
next letter, and the keyboard then inputs the accented letter. The three
keyboards are: 1) a phonetic Greek keyboard layout allowing access to
all the characters, breathings, accents, and breathing-accent
combinations of classical and Biblical Greek; 2) a standard modern Greek National keyboard layout for monotonic
Greek, with the acute accent dead key on the semicolon key; and 3) a
transliterated phonetic Greek keyboard layout similar to the National
keyboard layout, but with letters arranged differently to be more
phonetic to the English keyboard. Both the GreekLS Classical OT and
GreekLS Classical deadkey keyboard layouts allow
easy, logical input of the Greek and the text-critical symbols and sigla
needed by scholars.

Here's what others are saying about LaserGreek in Unicode:
"I want to express once more my gratitude that we were allowed to use your
beautiful and very clear and readable font SymbolGreekTU to publish the 28th
edition Nestle-Aland Novum Testamentum Graece."
Dr. Florian Voss, Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft
"I can certify that LaserGreek in Unicode is an absolutely wonderful product. It
makes a very difficult task extremely easy."
Pierre Bastien, Bailey, CO
"I am happy to endorse your splendid product. Your Greek fonts are
beautiful. I complied with an editor's request to use SPIonic and experienced
considerable aggravation and labour in doing so. It was disappointing to work
with such inferior software when I am used to working with my beloved LaserGreek."
Frederic M. Schroeder, Professor Emeritus, Department of Classics, Queen's University, Kingston,
ON Canada
"This really is a fabulous font/keyboard. I teach ancient Greek and write
scholarly books using Greek (I'm doing an edition of a fourth-/fifth century
Greek chronicle from a papyrus at the moment) so I use it quite a bit. Thanks!"
Richard W. Burgess, Department of Classics and Religious Studies, University
of Ottawa, Canada
"Thanks a lot for the fonts and for your explanation. I have already done a test
with the fonts and the
results were perfect. Many thanks and best wishes."
Dr. Paul Sanders, Protestantse Theologische Universiteit, Den Haag, The
Netherlands
"I got my software and everything works fine. There were no problems at all with
the installations and the results
were even better than I expected. Even a Dvorak keyboard! I should have done
this long ago. Thanks!"
Daniel Blakeslee, Chicago, IL
"I have been delighted with LaserGreek Professional in Unicode."
Dr. George M. Wieland, Carey Baptist College, Penrose, Auckland, New Zealand
"Everything's working as advertised and expected. Good installation directions
and great user manuals!!!!! Good job on this!!!!!"
Jim Vidlak, Oakley, CA
"The ‘PayneU’ fonts are the most wonderful Greek ones I have ever seen! I wish
to congratulate you!"
Prof. Panayiotis V. Tzamalikos, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Dionysos,
Greece
"I really appreciate your kind advice, not to mention your excellent products.
The custom-built macro has allowed me to convert hundreds of files thus far."
Professor Eric Dugdale, Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN
"Dear Philip, You have solved the mystery! My heartiest congratulations! I am
absolutely amazed by your talent,
persistence and genius. And thankful that I may send my remarks to our Odyssey
group today using the Classical OT
Keyboard. These fonts are really beautiful in addition to being functional. My
very best regards and gratitude,"
Michael F. Pajak, Mount Laurel, NJ
"This is such good software - in particular, so intuitive and easy to use. I
wrote my first book using an early version of LaserGreek, and having it back on
my computer in Unicode format is like being reunited with an old friend."
Simon Pulleyn, P. Phil. (Oxon), FRAS
"This is awesome!"
Dr. Panos CR Comninos, Cape Town, South Africa
""Everything is perfect and is working well. Thank you for your goodness in
putting forth perfection and the extra thought that makes me feel like I owe you
all something even after I have paid the bill. Linguist's Software has far
surpassed my expectations. You all have fulfilled everything I was hoping for
with absolute perfection. I surely have the very best Greek fonts on the
planet."
Brian K. Smith, Smyrna, TN
"Everything worked out: sendfile, install and the font! The font works the way I
wanted - text looks great!"
Veli and Heli Voipio, Hensinki, Finland
"Thank you for your prompt response and for your help in solving this problem
for me. I placed an order today.
Great product."
Professor Gerardo Mosquera, Humanities/Philosophy Department, Dawson College,
Montreal, QC, Canada
"I am always very pleased with your fonts. I use your fonts for teaching
elementary Greek, and with Graeca UBSU I have stopped getting complaints that
the students have trouble distinguishing soft and rough breathings under a
circumflex. Your fonts have a pedagogical advantage and not only an aesthetic
one. Keep up the good work."
Professor David M Schaps, Department of Classical Studies, Bar-Ilan
University, Ramat-Gan, Israel
"I love your LaserGreek in Unicode product. Thank you."
Michael Rowe, Barnesville, GA
"Thank you very much for your help and explanations. I love your products."
Michael J. Rowe, Barensville, GA
"Thank you once again for everything. I truly think that I have the best font
package in the world. I am amazed at what you all have done and I am amazed that
I have been able to obtain it. In truth, I could not be more delighted with my
fonts. May God look on your works and kindness and bless you and yours."
Brian Smith, Smyrna, TN
You all have done just what I was hoping for in
every detail in creating the SinaiticusLS and SinaiticusLSAU fonts to complement
my beloved GraecaU. It works just as I had hoped. This note is to express my
true thankfulness to you all. The creation of the SinaiticusLSAU was grace and
kindness. I truly think we have brought this font to where God wants it.
Brian Smith, Carol Stream, IL
I am continually amazed by the variety and precision of the many linguistic
products you provide. I think the UncialLSU Greek is the most elegant typeface.
You also provide the simplest Greek keyboard layout.
Ronald Bruzina, Department of Philosophy, University of Kentucky, Lexington,
Kentucky
"The SymbolGreekMetU font looks fabulous. I’ve only run into two compound
characters so far that you don’t have in the font as a composite form, and the
spacing on the compound parts worked out well even for these two. That’s pretty
impressive for a work by this author. The font really does look great in the
English as well as the Greek text. Much nicer than the Palatino the
publisher had been using."
Linda Diering, Production Manager, Focus Publishing, Newburyport, MA
"I am truly thankful to have your product. You and your staff have been very
clear, and professional; your skill and kindness leaves me with a compelling
desire to express my thankfulness not only to you but to all who might read this
note and that it might encourage them to purchase your products with
confidence."
Brian K. Smith, Wheaton, Ill.
"Thank you for your beautiful fonts."
Jean Lathion, Thônex, Switzerland
"I am very happy to use the marvelous OdysseaU in teaching ancient Greek to my
students."
Catherine Eugène, Paris, France
"Oh yes, LaserGreek OdysseaU, that's most beautiful of all! The NewJerusalemU
font is my favourite Hebrew font, too."
Dr. Jean Urban Andres, SatzWeise, Germany
"Your fonts are the best!"
Bruce W. Neely, Alexandria, VA
"OdysseaU is gorgeous! It is wonderful! Most Greek fonts are plainly ugly. One
was driving me crazy. OdysseaU is a sheer beauty to behold."
Peter Riedlberger, München, Germany
"As a longtime user of your Greek and Coptic fonts, I have always been impressed
by the high quality of the fonts you produce and have also been grateful for
your team's attention to customer service and technical support."
Prof. Byard Bennett, Grand Rapids Theological Seminary, Grand Rapids, MI, USA
"OdysseaUBSU is incredibly beautiful. Thanks again."

"LaserGreek in Unicode is fantastic, and so is the Coptic. My publishers are
going to love this!"
Professor April DeConick, Rice University, Houston, TX
"I'm very much enjoying using the LaserGreek in Unicode fonts. To have quick
access to accents and critical sigla is just fabulous, since I am working on
ostraka and using Unicode or character maps to represent the text is painfully
tedious. With HellenicaCU, a few keystrokes create even heavily edited
characters."
A. Roy, Macquarie University, History Department, NSW, Australia
"Thanks for your wonderful
software!"
Louis Demos, Harvard University
"...the Teubner font is lovely. I must have
it."
Anne Klinck

you so much for both."
Albert Hembd, Trinitarian Bible Society, Plano, TX
The LaserGreek in Unicode
fonts that I've been using for a while now are working wonderfully."
Daniel Rodriguez, Houston Baptist University, Houston, Texas
"It is breathtaking how
beautifully you have improved the basic Greek font product, in particular
with respect to the ability to insert breathing and other diacritical marks.
The font itself, of course, is elegant as always. Thank you again for your
diligent laboring in the Word!"
Michael Straus, Columbia University, New York, New
York
"Thank you
for the LaserGreek in Unicode beautiful high-quality fonts. Please, keep on
developing beautiful high-quality fonts!"
Christian Sebastian Becker, Hamburg, Germany
"Thanks so much! Your fonts, and your work in the texts
of the Scripture, is excellent.
Thank you so much for both."
Albert Hembd, Trinitarian Bible Society, Plano, TX
"I am delighted as I work with LaserGreek in Unicode HellenicaU for
Windows Vista."
Manuela Teixeira Tschanz, Geneva, Switzerland
"In 2005 I purchased a Greek New Testament in Unicode
and LaserGreek OdysseaUBSU and GraecaUBSU in Unicode from you. I must say
that I am very impressed. You have saved me hours of time every week in
typing the Scriptures for exegesis and what joy I had lost is back
again. I am so thankful to God for Linguist's Software, Mr. Payne and
his staff. You even made it possible for me to read my UBS in the font I
grew up with! Foolish of me, I suppose, but there is some comfort in
that and it speeds up my recognition of things. In the Mellel processor
you sold me I can easily alternate between English, Latin, Greek, Hebrew
and German. Now my study materials and papers look like I had hoped they
would. And I see that, if I should like a font that works well with
whatever English fonts I have, that you are making those available too.
Just excellent! You restore font-work to the eye-aiding practical art it
should be. Thank you again. Gott bei Ihnen!"
Rev. Bradley E. Ragner, BA, MDiv., Pastor Messiah Ev. Lutheran Church
Shiocton, Wisconsin, USA
"We have used Linguist's Software fonts for several
years, including your Greek and Hebrew fonts as well as your Semitic
Transliterator. We have been pleased with the quality and functionality.
I am impressed with the new Unicode versions of the fonts and I enjoy
the added features. I am very pleased with it. Thank you!"
Jacob Rawlins, Production Coordinator,
Institute for the Study and Preservation of Ancient Religious Texts,
BYU, Provo, UT
"I want to compliment Linguist's Software on its Installation Manual
and User's Manual. They are by far the best written and the easiest to
understand of any software manuals I've seen in over 10 years."
HB, Albuquerque, NM

Unicode. Again I want to thank you for all your service and help. May
GOD bless you and your work and products, because they gave me new
inspiration and joy in reading and writing HIS HOLY SCRIPTURES. SHALOM"

recent additions to the Unicode charts are present; you even included two
different types of koppas."
