LaserArabic & Farsi for Windows

Type Arabic and Persian (Farsi) in US Windows! Four TrueType and Type 1 English system Arabic fonts for use in all standard US Windows applications. Fonts include the characters for Arabic, Persian (Farsi and Dari). Follows the Arabic Windows and Arabic Macintosh keyboard arrangements. Excellent for use in label-making, sign-making, video-captioning, for business cards, and for other situations where short passages of Arabic are needed, but without the need for and expense of a computer dedicated to Arabic Windows and Arabic-localized applications. Input is left-to-right (reverse order) for compatibility with US Windows. Includes a Word for Windows template for easy right to left input (one line at a time*) in the US (English) version of Word for Windows. Does not contextualize letter forms, but Keyboard Switcher Windows utility normally types the medial forms and provides simple, intuitive access to initial, final, and isolated forms of every character.

Fonts included are LateefiLS, KitabiLS, NargisiLS, and SarmastLS.

Users needing to type correspondence- or paragraph-size portions of Arabic should consider Arabic Windows and localized applications such as Arabic Word (Microsoft Word with Arabic Language Support). Note that Arabic Windows earlier than Windows XP does not cover Farsi.

System Requirements: The TrueType® fonts install into Microsoft® Windows XP, 2000, NT, Me, 98, or 95 and work with all Windows XP-, 2000-, NT-, Me-, 98-, and 95-compatible applications that allow the user to select fonts from a font menu. (A custom version for Windows 3.1 is available by request.) Type 1 fonts are also provided and require Adobe Type Manager® in Windows Me/98/95. The included Keyboard Switcher (keyboard driver) provides alternate keyboard layouts and allows access to four characters per key (instead of the normal two). The product includes a User's Manual, keyboard layout chart(s), and Character Code Tables showing every character in the font(s). All documentation is in PDF format, and can be viewed and/or printed using Adobe Reader. The fonts will print to any printer at the highest quality allowed by your printer.

A custom version (fonts only) is available for Linux, but Linux users must provide alternate keyboard input for characters in the extended character set. If you are ordering for Linux be sure to select the Linux box on the Order Form.

* The Word for Windows right to left template does not overcome all the limitations of working in the English (left-to-right) Windows environment. The user must still be careful about word wrap at the right end of each line, and have a carriage return at the end of each complete line of Arabic or Persian text to prevent the right-most word (the first word in an Arabic or Persian sentence) from wrapping to the next line. The Word right to left template does, however, provide an easy way to type Arabic or Persian as if you were typing in a right to left environment, while still using your English application, and is ideal for typing short amounts of text.

This product may be purchased for use in either the Macintosh English System or the Macintosh Arabic System, or with the Macintosh Arabic Language Kit. Both products are described below. Be sure you select the appropriate product on the Order Form.

LaserArabic & Farsi, English System, for Macintosh

Four Type 1 and TrueType fonts for ImageSetters and PostScript® printers: LateefiLS, KitabiLS, SarmastLS, and NargisiLS. For use with the English System on any Mac.

LaserArabic & Farsi includes the EuroScript® scripting system for typing Arabic, Persian (Farsi and Dari) right to left in Nisus, without additional language resources. It also includes the Transcribe program for writing "as if from right to left" in word processors other than Nisus. After entering the text using EuroScript to do the initial, medial, and final forms for you, Transcribe's pattern will reverse the order of the letters in each line to make the text right to left.

System Requirements: The font may be typed in OS 7.1-9.x and OS X using the US keyboard. The optional EuroScript® scripting system installs only into Classic Mode of OS X or into System 7.1-9.x. (EuroScript has been tested in OS X 10.3 Classic Mode). The product includes a User's Manual and keyboard layout charts.
