A Unicode™-encoded version of this product is available with superior compatibility, graphic output, and ease of typing. Click to see if it better meets your needs. (Opens a new window.)

Five professional-quality TrueType® and Type 1 (PostScript®-format) fonts in plain, bold, italic, and bold-italic (except Chancery-style is plain only), for use in any application. AfroRoman includes characters and diacritics used in over 1450 African and European languages. The fonts feature over 50 overstrike accents and diacritical mark keys each having automatic overstriking for fast typing over any letter or symbol and in any combination. AfroRoman contains the characters for the following African languages: Acholi, Afrikaans, Bantu languages (see list below), Bobangi, Buluba-Lulua, Chadic languages (see list below), chiKaranga, Chishona (chiShona), Ewe*, Fulani-Adamawa, Fulani (Fulfulde), Gã, Hausa, Igbo (Ibo), Kanuri, Karanga, Kinyarwanda (Kinya-rwanda), Kongo, Lu-Gande, Masai, Matabele, Mende, Mole, Namaquah, Ndebele, Northern Sotho, Nyika, Pedi, Serere, Setswana, Shona, SiSwati, Somali, Sotho, Swahili, Tebele, Temne, Tswana, Twi, Umbundu, Vai, Western Sotho, Wolof, Wolof of Senegal, Yao, Yoruba, and Zulu.

*Ewe is also known as Ebwe, Efe, Ehwe, Eibe, Eue, Eve, Gbe, Krepe, Krepi, Popo, and Vhe.

The AfroRoman fonts also support these European languages: English, Estonian, French, German, Lithuanian, Polish, Slovenian, and Swedish. It also supports Hawaiian.

Choose between the following five typestyles (with samples below):
AfroRoman (Times®-style)
AfroRomanSans (Helvetica®-style)
AfroRomanGara (Garamond-style)
AfroRomanPala (Palatino®-style)
AfroRomanChan (Zapf Chancery®-style)
AfroRoman Professional (all five typestyles)

Any single typestyle is US$99.95; any 2 typestyles is $149.95; any 3 typestyles is $199.95; and AfroRoman Professional (all 5 typestyles) is $249.95.

AfroRoman is available for both Windows and Macintosh, and is essential when using non-Unicode-compliant applications. Because all the characters in both sets of fonts have the same ASCII values, files may be transferred between platforms in plain text (text only) format. However, documents will need to be reformatted, since plain text causes formatting to be lost. In order to transfer documents between Windows and Macintosh without losing formatting, the fonts must be Unicode-encoded. AfroRoman in Unicode is ideal for sending documents across platforms with no loss of character data (but requires Unicode-compliant applications).

Samples below follow the descriptions of the Windows and Macintosh products.

AfroRoman for Windows

System Requirements: The TrueType® fonts install into Microsoft® Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000, or NT, and work with all Windows 7-, Vista-, XP-, 2000-, and NT-compatible applications that allow the user to select fonts from a font menu. (A previous version for Windows Me, 98, or 95, and a custom version compatible with Windows 3.1 is available by request.) The product includes a User's Manual, keyboard layout chart(s), and Character Code Table(s) showing every character in the font(s). The included keyboard driver(s) allows access to four characters per key (instead of the normal two) and alternate keyboard layouts. All documentation is in PDF format, available on the Windows Start menu, and can be viewed and/or printed using Adobe Reader. The fonts will print to any printer at the highest quality allowed by your printer.

A custom version (fonts only) is available for Linux, but Linux users must provide alternate keyboard input for characters in the extended character set. If you are ordering for Linux be sure to select the Linux box on the Order Form.

Cost: US$99.95 for a single typestyle (Times®-, Helvetica®-, Garamond-, Palatino®-, or Zapf Chancery®-style); $149.95 for any two typestyles; $199.95 for any three typestyles; or $249.95 for all five typestyles (AfroRoman Professional). (The $50 discounted price for additional typestyles applies only to additional typestyles of this product for Windows.)
